Burton Sailing club runs a varied social programme that runs throughout the year.
This year the events have continued to be both memorable and successful.
The activities range from evening events such as the wine tasting and guest
speakers to weekend long events such as the Regatta and Beach Bum Weekends. Often at
these events the evening entertainment includes live music provided by one of the local
bands.
On Sunday sailing days the galley provision is outtanding, where Magaret continues to offer
excellent value hot meals, soups and not to mention the best cakes in the east Midlands!
She has certainly played her part in ensuring crews maintain their optimal sailing weights.
Wednesday evenings are a favourite night out with many club members. A single race followed
by a "bring your own" or "cook your own" supper. Several members who struggle to get their
boat on the water in time for these races turn up for the social occasion.
The format is simple just bring your food to cook on the BBQ or use the galley facilities.
The bar is usually open and the atmosphere convivial.
Open Day
This is the day when the club opens its doors wide to the general public to give taster
experiences at sailing. It usually takes place on May Day bank holiday.
The event is well advertised in the local press near the date and over the past years
has been very well attended. Many club members make their boats available for taking
visitors on their first 20 minute sailing experience. Demonstration sailing of some
description is also usually on agenda. Once the visitors have left the day is finished
off with a BBQ where a certain amount of deserved relaxation takes place.
Regatta Weekend
Members set up camp for the weekend and take part in informal fun sailing activities.
The sailing usually revolves around junior sailing but this doesnt stop the grown up
members from taking part. The evening entertainment usually includes of a live band.
Formal Sunday racing does not take place this weekend butr rather the informal fun sailing
continues on from where it left off on the Saturday.
Beach Bum Weekend
Very similar format to the Regatta weekend, except the sailing is more formal. This
year the Junior champs will be held over this weekend with races on the
Saturday & Sunday. Normal club racing will also take place on the Sunday.
